DAP (Delivered At Place)

The term DAP, or "Delivered At Place", is an Incoterm that means the seller is responsible for delivering the goods to an agreed location, usually the buyer's site, but without unloading. This term is crucial for companies involved in international trade, as it clearly defines the responsibilities of each party.

Seller's Responsibilities

  • Main transport: The seller arranges and pays for the transport to the agreed location.
  • Risks: All risks related to transport to the destination are borne by the seller.
  • Export customs formalities: The seller handles customs formalities in the country of origin.

Buyer's Responsibilities

  • Unloading: The buyer is responsible for unloading the goods upon arrival.
  • Import customs formalities: The buyer must manage and pay for customs duties and taxes in the destination country.
  • Risks after delivery: Once the goods are delivered to the agreed location, all risks are transferred to the buyer.

Practical Tips

  • Clarity of delivery location: Ensure that the delivery location is clearly defined in the contract to avoid any confusion.
  • Insurance: Although the seller covers the risks until delivery, it is advisable for the buyer to take out insurance for unloading and subsequent transport.

By choosing DAP, companies can benefit from greater clarity on costs and responsibilities, thus facilitating the logistics process and reducing the risk of disputes. For more information on Incoterms, see Incoterms 2020.
